Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi, and Vizag set for big transformation as NITI Aayog prepares plan – Times of India

The NITI Aayog has developed a plan to transform the cities of Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi, and Vizag, with the aim of helping India become a developed economy by 2047, according to its CEO BVR Subrahmanyam. He also mentioned that the NITI Aayog intends to create economic plans for 20-25 more cities, as they are the hubs of economic activities.
In order to achieve its goal of making India a developed economy worth $30 trillion by 2047, the NITI Aayog is in the process of preparing a vision document, which will be released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a PTI report.
During an event, Subrahmanyam stated that in the past, the focus was only on urban planning, and not economic planning. However, the NITI Aayog has now developed economic plans for Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi, and Vizag, with the aim of transforming these cities.
Last year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held a meeting with NITI Aayog officials to discuss the necessary steps to increase the GDP of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to $300 billion by 2030.
Subrahmanyam mentioned that on December 11, the government sought the opinions of the country’s youth in order to shape its vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. So far, we have received over 10 lakh detailed suggestions from the youth of India, which we are processing using artificial intelligence (AI), he added.
This initiative was conducted in collaboration with universities and other educational institutions.
In 2023, the NITI Aayog was given the task of consolidating the 10 sectoral thematic visions into a unified vision for Viksit Bharat @2047. This vision encompasses various aspects of development, including economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance, among others.
